birthday weekend part 3
sunday, june 14.
stephen and i finish our 5-week sailing lessons and are now ASA 101 and 103 certified. whoop whoop! haha. basically, it means we're allowed to charter boats on our own. it's fun to think about the possibilities: syndey harbor? whitsunday islands? bay area? i don't think stephen cares where we go though, as long as we get to barbecue on the boat, haha. got dinner at bay cities deli in santa monica, at the suggestion of one of our sailing classmates. the bread was well-oiled, the meats were well-marbled, and the cheese was thick-cut. super unhealthy, but the godmother sandwich is worth a try if you're ever in the area. couple tips: if you don't get it with the works, the man behind the counter will get mad, but if you do, beware of the hot peppers. man alive! haha. after dinner, we soaked a bit in the pool and jacuzzi to help recover from the weekend run, but didn't last very long since we were both exhausted from the weekend.
monday, june 15.
i thought it was over, but my co-workers had other ideas and surprised me with an ice cream cake at one of our afternoon meetings. haha. they said my face was filled with disgust when i saw the cake, so i had to explain that it was because i had just eaten one of the sweet surrender cupcakes, thinking that it would be my guilty pleasure of the day, but was bummed because i wouldn't have eaten it if i knew there would be ice cream cake, haha. i was definitely surprised though and happy because i got to blow out candles. =D oh, also, i got to use the zojirushi bento box that stephen got me as part 1 of my birthday gift from stephen. haha. i had been making a big deal about their anti-heat transfer capabilities recently, but never expected it as a gift, so that was a nice surprise too. part 2 is still to come. i get my pick at a one of the following when i move up north: trip to hot springs in northern california, white water rafting, trip to washington (chateau st. michelle), napa valley wine tasting, or dinner at chez panisse. of course, as alwalys, i'm taking my time deciding, so if anyone has any input, let me know!
