the (un)examined life

down and dirty

signed up for volkslauf last week. haha. i duno what i was thinking and i probably wasn't.

i can just see myself, stumbling passed the finish line, covered in mud, arms raised in victory... all set to the soundtrack of meatloaf's "i'd do anything for love".

hahaha. yea. that's the image i'll keep in my mind as i attempt to train for it this month. how does one train for something like that anyway?

heart attack grill

krispy kreme bacon cheeseburgers. served at google nyc's kitchen this summer to celebrate the chef's birthday.

so, i normally take care of myself pretty well - eating healthy and going to the gym -  but when i see something as completely ridiculous and disgusting/intriguing as this, it makes me really want to try it. i mean, really now. donuts? good. bacon cheeseburgers? good. why not put them together? i wonder why i never thought of this. it's like the mcgriddle for lunch... and i love mcgriddles, haha.

after all, what's life without a few indulgences? =D though i'm sure anybody reading this is now doubting my first stament about taking care of myself, haha.

but really, of all the flavor combinations one can make, you can't beat salty-sweet. think: chubby hubby ben & jerry's ice cream, wendy's frosties with fries, chocolate covered pretzels... actually, chocolate-covered anything. fondue? forget about the cheese or broth, and pour on the dark chocolate. while on the topic of chocolate-covered foods, i discovered one this summer that i promise will probably freak you out, but is just so delicious: chocolate-covered kong xin cai.

kong xin cai in madarin, literally, means, hollow heart vegetable, because it looks like spinach except the stem of the vegetable is actually hollow. in english, it's water spinach. see our friend, wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipomoea_aquatica, for more information. anyway, two of my favorite foods, combined together... healthy and heavenly! anyway, all you have to do is fry up the kong xin cai with a little oil in a wok and drizzle on some melted chocolate. so good and so trendy - simple fusion cooking in your own home.

i really think people should try it, but no one i've suggested it to has actually done it. i can only say... don't hate, cre-ate. haha. ok, i should stop. getting stupid and silly =P

not sure why i'm in such a goofy mood today, but i'll take that as a sign that life is good =)

czech film culture or one person's take?

on another note: i watched "i served the king of england" with stephen yesterday. i came out of it feeling so inconclusive, if that's possible, and i couldn't explain why. after giving it some more thought, i think it's because, generally, it was such a depressing movie, but it was done in such a light-hearted way. there are quite a few laughs, making it appear like a comedy, but what a sad story it tells. makes me wonder if that's just czech film culture or one director's distinctive take.

you never know what you have...

... until it's gone.

i haven't had full hearing for the past four days. went swimming on saturday and ever since then, my ears have been water-logged or something. if i'd remembered that this almost always happens when i swim, i wouldn't have gone, but it's been so long i'd forgotten. anyway, while getting ready for work this morning, something finally popped and my hearing's coming in and out, but oh, it's so great when i can actually hear! i never appreciated it this much when i had my normal crappy hearing... but life's like that, huh?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

OH-EM-GEE

i j/sat at my computer, laughing at myself for a whole two minutes, because somehow i yawn-hiccuped at the same time and made the funniest sound i've heard in ages. twenty-three years of living and still so immature. ::sigh:: ... love it =D

the proper amount of time to mourn lost belongings

my beloved Sony-DSC-T1 broke this weekend... and right before the jack johnson concert. too bad. no pictures of labor day weekend. so sad. i whined for a bit.. but i think i've properly mourned and because the weekend's over and i'm back at work, i'm planning to stop by the sony store and pick up this little replacement :) for some reason though, a small part of me feels guilty for replacing my old camera so quickly.
